In the latest sports news, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship organizers announced that Andy Murray will not be able to join their event this year. The three-time Grand Slam champion suffers from a recurring hip injury, and he will be skipping this event. This comes after Murray’s stint at the Qatar Open Final.
A lot of bookies using a pay per head sportsbook software saw Murray shine in the Qatar Open. The 35-year-old tennis star fought well and hard to reach the finals, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev. While fans were looking forward to seeing him play again, many are worried that his hip injury might necessitate another surgery for Murray. Murray already had two hip surgeries; one of which almost made him retire earlier than planned.
Murray and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship
Murray is supposed to play against Hubert Hurkacz in the opening round of the event in Dubai. Alexander Shevchenko will be taking his place instead. Andy Murray does admit that because of his age, as well as his health issues, long matches are something he is wary about. He says he has to be smarter about his game, and that he cannot just keep going until something will happen.
But tennis fans should not worry, as you can still bet on Murray in your bookie’s sports betting software soon. If all things go well, and Murray and his team think he is healthy enough to compete, we will see him this March 8. His next stint will be at the first Masters event of the year at the Indian Wells. We’ll be seeing if the clay is the more forgiving court for Murray.
