The Hard Rock Casino in Northern Indiana announced it would pause the construction of a connecting hotel. The operator said the reason for the delay was economic uncertainty.
Hard Rock International’s chief operating officer, Jon Lucas, recently told the state gaming regulator that the company is still keen on building a multi-story hotel at its Steel City location. Also, it is buying up surrounding lots to accommodate future parking needs. However, Lucas stated that the exorbitant construction cost and restrictive financing markets make it challenging to develop a Hard Rock Hotel at this time.
The Wind Creek Chicago Southland casino and hotel has been one of several major Region projects with delays or redesigns. In addition, the developer claimed funding challenges due to rising materials costs.
Hard Rock Casino in Northern Indiana Delays Hotel Project
According to Gambling Interaction reports, President Matt Schuffert of the Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana told the gaming commission that the $300 million Gary casino had seen $7.2 million in additional capital renovations since opening its doors on May 14, 2021.
As a result of these renovations, Hard Rock now has more slot machines (1,719) than any other commercial casino in the Hoosier State, having converted a portion of the Fresh Harvest buffet.
Schuffert said in the aforementioned outlets that the casino had upgraded its sound and lighting, installed a giant video wall in the 2,700-person Hard Rock Live performance hall, and built a second cashier cage in the baccarat gaming area. However, they don’t have an online casino platform.
Hard Rock has been Indiana’s highest-grossing casino for 14 consecutive months. However, they could earn more with online casinos.
